A BRIEF HISTORY OF
COMMAND DAY SECONDARY SCHOOL, IKEJA

The Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) Ikeja is one of the 47 Nigerian Army Command Schools (CSs) established to provide quality education across the nation. It was established in Sep 81 as one of the second generation of CSs at a temporary site and moved to a permanent site in 1985. It however relocated to its present site in January 2002 following the bomb explosion in Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ikeja. The pioneer Comdt was Maj CJI Falayi. Initially, Command schools were primarily established as an Army welfare scheme to cater for the educational needs of children of military personnel whose academic progress was usually interrupted by frequent postings of their parents to different units and formations within and outside the country. From a humble beginning, the School has maintained a progressive record of high level discipline, excellent academic performance and moral excellence. It is this enviable discipline and academic attainment that attracted the attention of civilian parents to enrol their children and wards in the School.

The School has so far established itself as a reputable citadel of learning. We strive for excellence in both academic and co-curricular activities through our desire to have a reputable and conducive learning environment that will produce well-groomed students ready to take higher academic challenges. It is worthy to note that I assumed command as the Twenty-fourth Commandant of the School on 18 Sep 23. The School management has continued to ensure a seamless transition, guaranteeing all teaching and learning activities continue effectively for maximum impact.
