CDSS Ikeja like other sister command schools, was organized as an Army Welfare Scheme. It was established primarily to cater for the academic needs of the children/wards of Nigerian Army Personnel, whose academics career was usually interrupted by frequent posting of their parents to different units and formation within and outside the country.

The school started with a humble beginning and maintained a progressive record of high level of discipline, brilliant academic performance and moral excellence. It is the enviable discipline and academic attainment that attracts the attention of civilian parents to enroll their children/wards in this citadel of learning. Hence, CDSS Ikeja has gone beyond its initial purpose of serving as a welfare school to Service Personnel, as it’s now a renowned centre of academic excellence for Nigerian children.
